Have you ever been to Pt. England Reserve?

On Wednesday the 25th of March, my whole school went to Pt.England Reserve to welcome Malama Honua, they are visitors from Hawaii. We went to Pt.England on a bus and some schools walked.

When we got there, We saw Pt.England, Glen brae, Glen Innes, Rupotaka, Tamaki Primary, Tamaki College and St.Pius. We sat in our space next to Pt.England school. The teachers from our school said for the seniors to get in partners with the junior students. I was partner with a girl named Ellma.

I sat at the back with my partner and waited and waited, suddenly we heard a horn. It was the visitors coming onto the shore in the Waka. The waka was brown and white and it was full with of people. After the waka was close to shore, around 7 people traveled on a smaller boat to shore.

When the smaller boat hit the shore, the leaders from all the schools did the haka. There were only 3 people from our school that did the haka. It was Natalia, Johnny and Giovanni. The song that we sang was called E oho.

Next the smaller boat picked up 6 more people from the waka. After that, a man wearing a blue t-shirt spoke in Maori to address the visitors. After he had finished, a woman sang a song, then the boys sang and then we all sang together. It was a long song, because we sang it quite a few times.

After a few minutes, 3 children from Pt.England said speeches. There were two girls and one boy. After that, we sang a song called He honore. It was short and easy.
After we sang the song, we sang another song called Nga waka. It was a fast song, but I got the hang of it. Then another man told us to come down on the sand and hi-five the hawaiian people's hands. I ran as fast as I could.

Finally we lined up for the bus and went back to school. When we got back to school, we had our lunch and that was the end of that trip.

It was the best day ever because I participated in the trip and I really enjoyed the Powhiri.

Have you been to Point England Reserve before for Kids' safety day?

On Saturday the 21st of February, I went to Point England Reserve for kid's safety day, my mum and I went super early so we can get a car park. We waited and waited and waited. After a while the activities started, but my mum and I were still waiting for my cousins. When I saw them coming, I was excited because we finally could go to the activities. There were water activities, Police activities, Ambulance activities and fire activities.

My cousins and I got passports for the 6 stamps. We went to every activity to collect the 6 stamps each. Then we all went in line to get a free hot dog in exchange for the 6 stamps collected. I saw my friends Rosary and Kayla. Rosary said "Can we push in" I said " Sure". I noticed that they were holding frisbee's from the activities and they got them for free. I felt proud and happy for them.

When we finished eating Celeste and I went for a swim. When we first got in, the water was cold so we got out and played in the sand instead. We were getting dirty so we cleaned ourselves in the water and went to dry ourselves next to my mum who was under the tree eating an apple. Summer, my cousin and Celeste's mum went to the park to play on the swing.

Celeste and I stayed behind and ate apples, then we went to see the police dogs. The colour of the police dogs was brown and black, They had sharp teeth and their names were Paula and Bear. They were awesome. Finally we had to go home.

I felt so happy that I participated in the kid's safety day because I learned how to be safe in the house, in the street, at school and everywhere I go. It was the best day ever.
